Google has launched SynthID Detector, a public tool designed to help users identify media containing invisible AI watermarks.
Available through SynthID.com, the detector allows users to upload images, videos or audio and check whether they contain SynthID watermarks generated by Google AI and participating technology partners.
One of the key advantages of SynthID is its resilience. The watermark can remain detectable even after common modifications such as cropping, filtering or other edits. Google says its technology has already been used across a huge volume of AI-generated media, including more than 180 billion images and videos and around 240,000 years of audio.
The technology is also expanding beyond Google, with companies including OpenAI, NVIDIA and Kakao participating, while Apple is expected to join in the future.
For marketers, creators and businesses, AI-content identification could become increasingly important as synthetic media becomes harder to distinguish from real content. Google is also integrating SynthID capabilities across products such as Google Search, Gemini and Chrome.
The broader goal is to make AI-generated content easier to identify and improve transparency across the digital ecosystem.
