Google Cloud has introduced a new Gemini agent for work, positioning Gemini as a universal AI coworker rather than simply a chatbot. Announced at Gemini at Work 2026, the agent can answer questions, handle knowledge work, create content, write and run code, and execute objectives autonomously.
The agent works across Gmail, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Chat and Calendar, while also connecting with platforms such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Jira, Slack, Microsoft Office and enterprise databases. It can maintain context and memory across devices and continue tasks in the cloud even after a user closes their laptop.
Google is also introducing multi-agent orchestration, allowing Gemini to create specialized sub-agents for complex workflows. Businesses can create coworker agents with their own identities, email addresses, calendars and controlled access to company resources.
For marketers, this could mean delegating tasks such as researching trends, analyzing campaign data, preparing reports and creating presentations from a single objective.
Security is a major focus, with agent identities, permissions, audit trails, sandboxing and policy controls designed for enterprise deployment. Google is also adding smart routing and spending limits to control AI costs.
The bigger shift is clear: Google wants Gemini to become an AI teammate that completes work, not just an assistant that answers questions.
