Anthropic Adds Mods to Claude Code, Enabling Deep AI Assistant Customization
Anthropic’s new Claude Code Mods let developers reshape how the coding assistant behaves, looks and responds, opening the door to highly personalized AI development workflows while introducing...
Anthropic has introduced Mods for Claude Code, giving developers significantly more control over how the AI coding assistant works. Available with Claude Code version 2.1.287, Mods are small TypeScript functions packaged inside plugins and can modify both behavior and the user interface.
Developers can use Mods to rewrite prompts, block or modify tool calls, manage permission requests, redact sensitive information, add interface elements or even replace built-in features. Anthropic says users can also ask Claude Code to create Mods for them, making customization accessible without building everything manually.
The developer community is already experimenting with unusual use cases, including games such as Doom running inside Claude Code and custom interfaces that display live activity.
For businesses and development teams, the bigger opportunity is personalization—Claude Code can potentially be adapted to specific workflows, security requirements and internal processes.
However, Mods run with the same machine access as Claude Code and are not sandboxed, so Anthropic recommends installing them only from trusted sources.
The takeaway: Claude Code is moving from a fixed AI coding assistant toward a more customizable platform where developers can shape the experience around how they actually work.
